Challenge

To understand the extent and impacts of ocean acidification in Puget Sound, and to implement actions that reduce its sources and enhance the resilience of marine organisms and communities.

Solution

The Port of Seattle has installed a state-of-the-art sensor system to measure ocean acidification parameters at its Pier 66 facility, and has partnered with local organizations to restore native Olympia oysters and eelgrass beds that can buffer against ocean acidification and provide habitat for marine life.
