Challenge
The challenge is to meet the growing demand for electrical energy in the Kribi industrial zone, which is expected to reach 100 MVA by 2024, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing the attractiveness of the zone. The goal is to generate electrical energy from renewable sources, using biomass from oil palm residues, wood logs, and organic waste, and solar energy from photovoltaic panels.
Solution
Building a biomass power plant that will use oil palm residues, wood logs, and organic waste as feedstock, installing solar photovoltaic panels on rooftops and ground-mounted systems, and providing green Onshore Power Supply (OPS) to ships that dock at the port. The project will also involve partnerships with various stakeholders, such as oil palm mill owners, waste management company, and industries in the zone.
